I have seen folks show me a picture of a “4 pounder”that looks a whole lot like a 2 1/2 pounder That I normally catch
Those fish must be incredibly dense.
Anyone experience this

My brother used to tell tales about the 4 and 5 pound smallmouth he catches. Until he caught a legit 5 pounder.
More like 2 1/2 - 3 pounders.

He is a fisherman after all! The more often the story is told the bigger the fish gets.

A lot of times when you see their photos, look at how BIG their knuckles are. That is a good indication of how close they are holdin the fish to the camera.
Makes the fish look much bigger than it actually is.

I find it is helpful to have the smallest person fishing hold/pose with the fish.

I was catching some enormous bluegill one year.
The running joke was I’d put the fish in my granddaughters hand and take a picture.
Ya know that would work !!!

I have taught mine to hold crappie at arrms length 4 and 8 year old grandaughters.

Grandsons caught on quick to that trick.

But we all know how tall a 5 gallon bucket is.

I've seen a pile of 40lb lake trout pictures. That weren't as big as a 35 pounder. I don't say anything, let them live in the moment.

I had a picture of a 65lb salmon I caught, tail touching the ground, over elbow high and I'm 6'2", my three year old daughter was standing next to it and the fish was way bigger and fatter, no flim flam on that shot, that is a big frigging fish with big ass dog teeth.

Dang brother, I'd love to see that pic. That is some big fish. I caught one once over in the Feather that was 40+ pounds and I thought it was big but not nearly like yours.
You still got the pic?
I ain't callin you a liar, really, I would just like to see a big fish and it sounds like you caught one.

An earlier post advised that one should always have an action figure handy to pose with a fish. A 6” figure can make a 4” bluegill look like it weighs 200#😉

I agree with Egghead -
I bought a scale finally this Fall because I was tired of guessing. I would say most of my Bass are in the 1 1/2 -3 lb range but would like to know for sure.
I could care less what anybody else thinks. I'm outdoors, in a boat, on a lake ( and in a boat on my driveway sometimes) with friends and enjoying life. A fish on the end of my line is merely a bonus - no matter what it is.
