Never had a bait caster before, guy convinced me this is the way to go on a budget, can anyone recommend a rod? I need something for bass/ general fishing. Nothing crazy, just an all around rod.

Budget? What kind of lures do you want to throw? Also whats the gear ratio on the reel?

What's your budget looking like for the rod? What fish do you plan on targeting - assuming bass?
I strongly recommend the Abu Garcia Vendetta - 7' Medium-Heavy (or Medium) Fast. It runs about $80 at Cabelas. It's pulled in numerous 32"+ pike for me, running 20lb braid on it just fine.

I have one of these in medium on a spinning reel. I can attest to its value. Big fan of this rod.
If this is going to be your only setup I would lean towards medium heavy rod so that you can throw a wider variety of lures.

It's been awesome so far. I have a Lews Laser Pro Speed Spool strapped on top. One of my better fishing purchases yet.
