Out of curiosity, who here still abides by the old superstition of not bringing a camera with you while fishing? If so does a smart phone count? Also what are some of your local superstitions?

Don’t bring a scale or measuring tape for me.

That way all my fish are 8lbs.

We give offerings to the fishing gods by throwing loose change from our pockets into the ocean, as well as no bananas on boats.

Personally I always bring a camera or my iPhone which has one obvs, and I always encourage my friends to bring one as well. As a fisherman you gotta have evidence of your catch or else it’s just another fisherman’s story and we all know how accurate those stories can be 😉.

Never heard a camera as bad luck. Never stopped me and fishing is still great with some good pic`s too! Ditch any bananas so old but still dump any overboard. Most Capt`s will set you ashore if a B brought aboard. That's an old salt hard luck thing to pass on.

The original reason bananas are not welcome on boats is because of tarantulas, which happen to like hitching a ride in bunches of bananas.

No fish for lunch (sardines, tuna sandwiches, etc.) It warns the fish in the lake what to expect if they bite on your hook

All a bunch of hogwash. Eat the bananas on the way before fishing. Mind the details. Use your best bait first. Go fishing every time you can. Never be greedy. Of course take a camera. Holding your mouth right means Smiling. 😎

And clean it. Recently, at a pier a fisherman asked me to lend him a knife, I handed him mine in the sheath and about ten minutes later he returned it. about an hour later I pulled my knife out of the sheath to discover it was all bloody and so the interior of the sheath. He was no where to be found. Next time I'll check with the borrower in sight.
