Quick question on my braided and mono line.

So I’m from MA, and I haven’t fished since last fall, which is probably around the same time I put new line on the reels. My reels have been sitting in there boxes spooled up since then. Do I have to change the line or would that be unnecessary? Planning a trip next Wednesday, and don’t want to waste the day.

Should be ok.

The line will probably be okay, but the mono will probably have some memory or the spool. Makes fishing slow baits a little harder.

The braid is fine for sure and back in the day when all I used was mono I'd test it by pulling on it and seeing how easy it was to break. It's probably fine as well but testing it is quick and easy and then you'll have peace of mind.

(We do the same kind of pull testing on mono gill nets to check their condition also).

Thanks, I’ll test the mono like you said, really it’s just a finesse rod that I have mono on and if that’s the only thing that I need to be concerned with then it’s no sweat off my back to get some new mono. I appreciate the input.

If it has been out of the sun in boxes, the mono is fine. some memory to it but that can be solved by running for a few minutes under tap warm water.
