I went pond hopping a few hours ago and could see plenty of bass less than 2 feet away from the bank in the same spot. I am assuming they females are getting ready to lay eggs. I live in GA and the temp has been around 70 degrees recently. I tried chatter baits, wacky rigs, Texas rigs, jigs, and lipless crankbaits. I just can’t seem to get them to bite. Even the males seem incredibly lethargic. Any tips? I am going again in the morning. If it matters I fished from 5:30-8:30. Thank you!

Once they start getting locked on to beds and are very close to spawning or have already begun to spawn, they are pretty unlikely to bite until spawning is complete. Usually a slow week or two.

I'm unsure where you're at or if it's the same throughout the country but in Texas fish are all over the radar with the spawn.

Some are still prespawn, some are spawning and some are post spawn.

There's never been what I'd call a slow period here into the Summer transition, because you can still find fish on beds right into the beginning of Summer.

I’m in Oklahoma, so we’re probably only a week or two behind y’all. I agree that the fish can be doing any number of things throughout this time of year, but I think it depends entirely on the fishery itself. OP said he was fishing ponds, which tend to have the same water temp throughout the body of water, whereas lakes can have pretty drastic temperatures changes from north to south. So you may have protective post-spawn bass in the warmer spots of the lake, less aggressive spawning bass where the water has just reached the ideal temperature, and you may have prespawn pattern elsewhere where the water is still a little too cold, all in one body of water. But in my experience, ponds are more homogenous and the fish go through the same spawn pattern at any point in the pond.
