I have a pristine trout steam in the front yard. Can anyone tell me the impact these frieking birds actually have on the trout population?

Welcome to the forum, quillgordon54. I'll trade you front yards, I do not have a heron problem, blue, white or gray. If I did, I think I could take care of it. You may be able to get a permit from the DNR, if you can prove they are causing a problem. Is the stream on your land or has the access been sold to the DNR? That would make a big difference.

Bang, Bang! Then there should be no problem. In answer to your question of if they cause a problem with the trout population. A comeraut, a little smaller bird, will eat 2 pounds of fish a day. We opened season on them for a while here in MN. That somewhat solved a problem for the time being.

.177 cal lead poisoning! We had several in my old hood and they killed everything stocked one summer...something like 2000 fish. They would eat their fill and continue to kill trout so the next guy wouldn’t get any. Walking along the bank and find trout with the eyes pecked out-those birds are vermin on a trout stream!

I have a trout stream across the road from me, and have noticed a Blue Herring across the stream fishing, right along with me, but never seen him/her take anymore than one fish then fly off down the stream. Never had an idea that this one bird could cause such devastation. I know that certain ducks can wreak havoc on Trout streams but never considered how much the herring takes.
