I'll learn to tie that ridiculous knot right after my lesson in "corn-rolling" my hair, okay ?
Any "knot" that takes up 2cm+ (that's damn near an inch !) length-wise is over-kill to the max for ANY fish under 60lbs, dontcha think ? Under what circumstances and what kind of lines (as in.... what line slips so much, that this knot is necessary) are you joining ?
Always wondered about that knot... now that I do know.... Not very excited.
Please do tell why anyone NEEDS this knot...seems like the invention of a bored sailor.
(with aspirations to jump ship and become either a hairdresser in an ethnic neighborhood, or a bullwhip/buggy whip/saddle-maker !)

Great link Spirit, thanks. I think the FG knot will have it’s place, but the Albright and the Alberto May end up being new go-to knots for me.
Reverse Albright I developed for Power Pro 25 years ago is as good as any, a good knot needs to be easy to tie under most conditions and get up into that 90% failure margin ! This one does both , I coat mine with knot sense fills in gaps nicely and you can trim close after pulled snug ! Most times in heavier lines you will need gloves to cinch correctly !

Why not use the YUKATAN knot for ease in tying, good strength, and the smallest diameter?
Reverse is quicker add a Bimini and it’s up with a thing out there ! I always use a Bimini in salt and hvy fresh as applications
I have never heard so much BS over a knot that is not hard to tie. If you do not want to use it or just plain cannot learn to tie it just do not use it.
Can it be tied in 30 seconds on a rocking boat or in low light condition ? If so use it no issue ! I’ll stick with my choice !

Didn't say that it's "too hard", I can tie a monkey's fist, backsplice, whatever.
What I said was ..why use it and how is it superior ? I just can't see the purpose of a knot that is nearly an inch long.
Snark or offer explanation, your choice.
If you are getting a knot that is almost an lunch long you are tying it wrong or putting way too many wraps on the leader. It, the knot was tested stronger than other knots. I can also make a monkey fist and a back splice.
Merry Christmas and have a great New Year.
Just following the video....."continue to braid 15-20 times, for about 2cm".....
Still didn't answer the question.....why use it over any other ?
You must have had a Scoutmaster that used to be a sailor, as I did. Lashing logs and splicing were just the beginning, rope-wise.
I did answer the question of why use the FG knot. It was tested as the strongest and least bulky of knot that connect main line to leader.
I was not in the Scouts but I was a sailor.
Spirit, nice reference guide for all of these knots, will choose the one I find easiest. Thank you! Tom
You're welcome Tom. Merry Christmas.
