I don't know MrEy but welcome to the stage. We got some members down that way, and I've seen some occasional chatter on here about fishing the piers in SoCal, so somebody knowledgable will probably show up. Please let us know, and post some photos if you will. We love photos.
Mackeral are always there. Red Snapper will show up. Just use shrimp on a crappie rig. Once catch fish use some of the fish with skin and meat.

You may catch white croakers mostly (high % mercury content), undersized flat fish, mackerels at that pier. The bait most often used is frozen anchovy pieces. Shrimp for bait well not for me, I rather clean it and make me a shrimp cocktail with them. Try the Malibu pier the ambience is better there. lol
