Mornin' bk,

I haven't given it a lot of thought, but I did wonder, and now that you asked, I google it. "Fine Grip", which it could be, but I still wonder. It sounds like a good knot but a little tough to tie. I have never tried it, but I have been thinking about that too.

Fly, I haven’t yet attempted it myself. I’ve simply used a double uni and j knot and have had no failures but I’ve heard that it’s superior.

Yea FG is a “ Fine Grip” knot
It is pretty tough to tie.
I do go thru the bother because it is extremely low profile and incredibly strong.
Another is the Alberto. A little easier to tie , especially on a rocking boat . It’s thicker but strong as well
The double Uni is also strong and is pretty simple to tie

Personally I think they should name it an FA knot, "Frigging Aggravating". That's the hardest knot i've ever tied, it works good when I tie it right but aggravating to tie.

Looks like it should be tied at home, rather than in the boat or while fishing. Am willing to test it to see how “F...ing Good” it is...but I’d better leave myself a note as to which rod I put it on.

I am with Ivey except for the other ( F ) word. Whoops Santa is reading this. The local fishers and guides push that FG knot instead of the double uni. For me if i get the uni perfect which is 90% of the time it works for me.

I’m not sure what FG is. I’ll have to read all your posts. I think Ben mentioned the Alberto knot. This one I use all the time to attach leader to main line. I mostly use braid to Fluorocarbon leader. It creates a knot that resembles those old Chinese finger torture toys. It allow you to reel that knot all the way back to your reel. It was created by Alberto Knie. An amazing angler who everyone should look up if you already haven’t heard of him. His fishing adventures are extensive with the most intensive attention to every detail of the how’s and why’s fish react and how to meticulously target different species. This is a video ( maybe not the best quality) I did showing you how I tie this and a Palomar knot. I did make a few errors in this video first off mispronouncing Alberto’s last name. It is pronounced “ Née” also he grew up in Hong Kong and lived in Brazil. Enjoy ! https://youtu.be/atyUZWpCc94

Nice video, thanks for sharing
With a little practice that ought to be a relatively easy one to master.

f ing goofy. I just do a overhand synch or double over hand synch and its a sinch. I have used blood knots to join a line. I have tried uni for mono to braid.

That is my sentiment exactly. Do it in the garage I’ve tried it on the water and have a very hard time.
There is a lot going on. Tension , keeping track of what your doing. Otherwise an incredible knot

Since I use a shock tip on my surf heavers I want the smallest knit possible si it doesn't knock the ceramics out of the guides. A double uni just doesn't work for me. I always use an Albright or the modified version, which is, I believe, the Alberto. I haven't yet tried th FG simply because I want to sit at my bench to tie it the first 20 times.

Yea flytier I felt the same way. I put a couple spools of line in my suitcase and spent a couple nights in a hotel in Mexico practicing the FG
For me keeping track of where the hell im at is the biggest challenge.
It is an incredibly thin and strong knot
You should give it a try
I have A few micro guide rods and tjis knot has never caused a problem

I learned to tie the FG knot by watching you tube. I use my thumb and first finger, it can be tied in the wind and on a rocking boat without difficulty.
