What are the crappie doing shallow in December
If you had a warm sunny day they were taking advantage of it.
Well, Hoss: I doubt you will find any Crappie shallow unless you have a stretch of several days of unusually sunny weather! Just Sayin...RJS

Wonder if it was a power plant lake and their spawning due to the temperature of the water.
Evidently they are trying to hide in coolers?

Used to troll Weiss lake in north east Alabama on New Years Eve, Crappie might be as shallow as 2 ft. This time of year Crappie will head back into the creeks and small rivers getting ready to spawn. They may go deep for a couple days when a front blows thru then be shallow again but they're thinking about Spring and the spawn. Just like everyone else.
