Looking to buy my first spinning setup . Looking at a 7' medium, fast duckett micro magic . Light shakey heads weightless worms ned rig . What size reel would be sufficient. I'm leaning pfluger president xt. Size 20 ? Maybe 25.

2500 is pretty standard for me in my shimanos. I haven't needed much more than that. I use the 1000s for trout and crappie.

A 2000 is fine man. Anything bigger is overkill. A 2000 will be perfect for small bait finesse fishing all the way up to 0.5 oz jig and pig.

If you can get to a store that has them in stock bring the rod with you and test them out. In my opinion balance and line capacity are the most important factors. Realistically you aren't going to be throwing a weightless worm more than 40 yards even on the most perfect cast and a fish isn't going to be making 40 yard runs either (unless you also plan on using it for species that do) so anything over 75 yards of your line of choice is overkill and added weight. Drag strength and retrieve rate are also irrelevant for these techniques so a smaller reel is fine.

FWIW I routinely use a 500 series reel on a UL rod and never feel outgunned.
