Does any one know a supplier of barb less hooks or better yet buying barb less panther martins. Have look all over and can't find any. Couple rivers up here you can fish for Browns but must have barb less this time of year. And don't trust bending the barb over because if Johnny Law runs a cloth over it and if it catches you are fine. And it will catch.

Try fileing or grinding them off with a Dremel . None of my sources list barbless hooks.
Connecticut accepts flattened barbs as barbless.

Sounds like Oregon. I’ve never found barbless spinners of any kind but I carry a small chainsaw file and when I pinch the barns down I file em till I can’t snag a cloth on them. I ran into that on the Deschutes River in Oregon. I didn’t get a fine but was told I would if he checked me again. That was 10 years ago so I’m sure there no warnings now. The game cop then carried a cotton ball. If he stuck it in the cotton ball and any cotton was on it when he pulled it out it was a violation. Nice guy and he told me about the small chainsaw file. Not many of those guys left around any more.

Calif does the same but boy you better not have a hair of a barb left. You would think some outfit would make them.

I support all law enforcement but game cops cut no slack here. A few years ago two friends were fishing for trout and sharing the same stringer. In Calif. most trout limits are 5 per day. The stringer had on 7 trout Johnny Law ask whose stringer it was, one of my friends said it was his and got a ticket for two fish over the limit plus took all the fish. They tried to explain they were sharing but a no go. That is chicken doo-doo to me. ( I am learning)

I have but will google Owner and Gamakatsu. Going out now to the shed and try Catfish Hunter trick with the chain saw file.

I got a good solid quality flat jawed set of pliers so you can get a really tight crunch on the barb, but before you crunch the barb down do a rollover type crunch over just the tip of the barb with the end of the pliers so it is even flatter than the rest when the barb is crunched down even solider. Also take the care to crunch from a side angle because the sharp side edges will stick out. That makes it to where even if it catches cotton looking at it shows that as good as an attempt at making it barbless as is possible was attempted.

My wife and I were at the McCloud River and had a warden want to see the barb on what we were using, he was looking at some of the flies in my fly box and I showed him the crimping pliers hanging on my vest and told him they were irrelevant as I don't crimp until I put the fly on...he said fair enough. There was no problem on either my wife's or my flies.

The fact of the matter is (and a lot of people may disagree) that a barbless hook will land as many or possibly even more scrappy trout than a barbed hook. The science behind that is that as a fish fights and thrashes around the barb eats at the hole widening and opening it up to where the hook can come out easier, there is also the psychological factor that people tend to adhere to good playing techniques when they think they need to be more careful because there is no barb to keep the hook on. I've never seemed to lose any fish because of barbless hooks.

That said, you can get Gamakatsu barbless hooks at Walmart, Eagle claw makes them as well...look online and you should be able to find some

I almost always use barbless for fresh water because I rarely keep my catch. This year, I didn't keep a single one. (That's a joke.). I've purchased some and I've made some. I've got a bunch of panther martins that I did myself with my Dremel. I bought a bunch of Gamakatsu barbless trebles to switch out on some of my other lures. They're out there, you just have to be persistent. If you want smaller hooks for trout, try looking online for fly fishing suppliers.
