Well it's that time of year again for hard water fishin. Every year people fall thru the ice. Some drown. Some float. But even floaters suffer hypothermia. Remember, ski pants are for skiing. Carharts are to keep you warm,in a dry climate there super heavy when wet.they WILL sink with you in them. You won't get out. BOOTS, if your going to wear big heavy warm pack boots, wear them loose so you can kick them off in the water.there heavy when wet.they will sink with you in them as well. I wear a Dunlop Boot, there snug around the calf and you can tape a plastic bag aroun them and your calf like a gator. To keep the water out. They will float. Ice armor, has great bibs and coats at a reasonable price. There PDF coast guard approved and they float. And will keep you warm,ER when you fall in than ski pants or Carhartts. Ice spikes wrapped around your wrists and easily to access in a panic there light and under $10....
I'm not a professional,or a game warden, not a marine bioligist. I'm not selling survival gear, I just care about you.
I am the guy that broke thru the ice and lived, and also pulled my friend out 2 seconds after I got out. He was in the water maybe 10 seconds.he weighed 265 lbs. naked. Probly 340 pounds soaking wet. I pulled him up in the ice with one hand the other one doesn't work. We both wear float coats n bibs.i was only in about 2 seconds. It's amazing what you can do with ice water on your balls. If you can only afford part of a set, I recommend getting the bibs first with your legs floating it will be easier to pull yourself up on to good ice with ice spikes.
Remember when going out , you have a family that wants you to come home.
Be safe out there. And good luck.

From a man who says it’s nice outside when it’s 8*, I’ll take your word for it. Great survival tips I hope to never need in south Louisiana.

Egg our ponds and lakes around here don't get enough ice really to do much ice fishing. every now and then they do a buddy of mine fell through the ice couple years ago and luckily he had made himself a spike out of a old screwdriver he said it saved his life and he wished he had made two of them.

Well all that safety stuff is to much for me. I'll just be a fair weather fisherman than. I don't care for the cold at all. Wear this don't wear that and keep these loose . Way to much for my little brain. With all that how do you remember to grab your gear?? I would forget everything. Then you say the water is cold if you fall in heck no baby. Wait till it's warm. Just this boys opinion. Lol. If You guys do fish on the ice please be safe. And show some pictures of the fish and all that gear you wear to do it.

Yes Spirit, I do eat them. And yes there really good. Tender and taste alot like pork.
And for the anti hunters and anti fishing people on here. Lion hunt areas are tightly controlled. Some of you think that a good balance in nature is one lion for every deer and elk, one wolf for every deer and elk.and one grizzly for every deer and elk.some people aren't smart enough to understand CONSERVATION keeping balance. A cat the size of the one in that picture will kill and eat what ever he wants a couple times a week. So, if you have 100 elk, 100 deer 100 lions and 100 wolves and 100 grizzlies. In simple math terms if all the preditors kill once a week each. 100 of them go hungry. You might think that there is a grocery store full of meat in Yellowstone Park that all the preditors go to to get food like we do but there's not. And this might shock you to. The meat department in the store. ALL that meat at one time used to wonder around the hills and on a ranch and eat grass. 😳 And someone made a nice clean shot right in its brain and killed it,cleaned it cut it up so you could eat it. Yep, all that meat in the store where no animals were harmed. Got killed somewhere. So remember while your eating your salad, carnivores eat vegitarians !!!
