I love lake fishing for Large Mouth. I am a kayak fisherman and love fishing for bass. Luckily, there are many lakes within an hour drive of my house in Altoona, PA. But winter comes early here and all the lakes already have a thin coating of ice on them. I’m having withdrawal symptoms! I need recommendations for a nice winter fishing trip. Where would you go if you were me?

Mexico! No Question. Of course there is the problem with bandits. At the El Salto lake trhey have a lot of guards and I have never read or heard of anyone being robbed or shot there. My personal best was a few oz over 9 lbs. but there are larger bass there. You will catch 4 to 6 pounders regularly. Just Sayin...RJS

Let me state the obvious (from my point of view) - Clear Lake in California. There's a reason why tournaments are held there. And if the bass aren't bitin, there are 30 pound channel cats in there.

Egg, I can take the cold, o.k., but it's the damn wind that I don't like. The wind chills me to the bone, and it's windy all of the time up on this ridge. It's nice in the Summer when the temp. is around 90*, but that is the only time.

Go to Mexico. I’ll be heading down to Baccarac as soon as it’s medically safe. Think

The Chichamaga in east Tennessee is one of the premier big bass lakes in the country right now and some of the biggest bass are caught in the dead of winter. Double digit bass are fairly regular there, May want to give it a look.
