Main use is gonna be for smaller fish no bigger then 3-4 pounds trout, bass, bluegill I’m just getting into fishing so any pointers will be great I have a setup for bigger fish already looking for something smaller
What kind of fish and what lures do you intend on using?
Oops. Reread.
I’d suggest starting with a spinning outfit
6 1/2 -7 ft medium weight rod with a quality spinning reel in a 2500 size.
Budget wise the sky’s the limit.
You can get a decent set up for $125.-$150
Or there are plenty in a more economical price point.
Remember you get what you pay for.
New fishing pool? Are you asking about a lake or stream? Or recommending a new rod and reel? I'm a little confused. As usual.
no just looking for a new fishing pole something for smaller fish I have a setup for bigger fish

Pole. OK. Pole.
I have a couple of St. Croix trout series rods - love em, very very nice rods for under 150 bucks. Spinning rods. 1000 or 2000 size reel? Look at Shimano NASCI for about 100 bucks, bought one a year or so ago and I'm very happy with it. If you want to do light or ultra lite casting? I bought a Major Craft ul and paired it with a Shimano SLX DC - very nice and will throw the little stufff.
You don't have to spend $100 or more just to get started. Get yourself an Ugly Stick spinning combo with a size 35 reel and a 6'6" medium rod. $49.99 at Cabela's. If you decide you like fishing upgrade the reel. I like Quantum, other people on FS swear by Diawa or Shimano, it doesn't really matter. If you decide you like fishing it won't be long before you'll be buying more gear so try different brands until you find what you like. But an Ugly Stick combo is a good place to start.

I agree hard to beat a Pflueger President reel also
Why not treat yourself to a really nice Christmas present? You deserve it. You will never regret buyin a St. Croix trout or panfish series rod. And that Shimano NASCI is a really nice reel for 100 dollars. Listen to the little devil over here on your left shoulder. Ignore those tight wads on your right.
I agree with spirit you can't take it with you.

Agreed. I’ve had about every brand known to man over the years. Everybody has their favorite so try the lower priced stuff till you get a feel for what fits you. I have ugly stiks I’ve had for years and they still perform as well as the high dollar stuff. Whatever catches fish and works good for you is what I’d recommend. A buck is a buck so why spend a whole bunch of em when you don’t have to. I screwed up and went the expensive route first. Now I have ugly stik and Berkeley rods and catch just as many fish as the guys that spend more on their rods and reels than I spend on my boat.

Actually I agree with you CH. Use whatever you're comfortable with.
Experience has a little bit to do with your success rate. When I first started fishing for money, 7 years ago, all the top guys said I’d need to upgrade my gear if I wanted to make any money. 4 seasons later, when I was in the top 20 anglers out of 600 and still using the same gear I started with they were asking ME for advice. I just said 🤷♂️. I guess just learn how to catch em. When everyone said it’s really slow in August I just fished different places and brought in 30 fish when they brought in 9. Still using my 10’6” Berkeley IM 8 and a quantum baitcaster from the bank and ugly stiks Abu reels from a boat. I don’t have $150.00 invested in the best rod/reel set up I own. Well outside of halibut and sturgeon gear. Even then it’s Ugly Stik tigers and Penn reels. Probably a couple hundred apiece on those but most of my big fish stuff is gifts from my boys. You don’t have to break the bank to be a good angler. I spend my money on good, comfortable, clothing for fishing. Nothing makes less sense to me than having a $500.00 rod/reel combo and freezing your but off trying to use it.
