Final Day last Thursday, at my favorite spot on the NYHarbor - in the dark a very nice surprise - I was targeting Tautog (jigging with shrimp) - they were just about really off (bedtime) and BAM this nice Schoolie Stripper hit hard and ran. Sorry for the image, the fish refused to hold still for a good headshot. Last day: 2hrs towards dusk 1- Tautog 1- Striper. Good Day for me.

Sounds like a great end of season day to me. Mine was a beautiful day, sunny and clear and cold. No fish for me but still a great day out in the mountains and by a river😁. Spring will get here and I’ll be back in a Yak and paddling, pond, lake or puddle. You all have a Great Holiday season and stay safe from the West Coast to the East coast and All those around the world from me!!

Tautog aka Tog aka Blackfish aka Rubber Lips aka White Chinner.
A reef, rock and wreck dwelling bruiser. They live on crabs, shellfish and other crustaceans including lobsters. Like the nickname suggests, they have thick rubbery lips and a smile that reminds me of Michael Spinks. They are skilled bait stealers, and the old saw says you have to "set the hook right before you feel the bite "! They live in rough bottom, and don't want to leave it,and will break you off. They have excellent tasting white meat, and are a blast to catch.

First time I went blackfishing all I did was feed them the green crabs. Knowing when to set the hook takes time with these guys. They put up a great fight. And there’s usually sea bass in the mix with them.
