I’ve always wanted to go to Labrador in search of their giants but never had the means so I carved my own out of wild white pine. It’s my first carving and pretty crude but I decided it was still wall worthy. Please excuse the thermostat.
I think it’s beautiful. You should be proud of yourself.

Beautiful! Great job!
My dad was an realistic fish and wildlife wood artist. A craft he took up after retirement. He left a couple of prices unfinished when he passed at 85 four years ago. I’m hoping to try to finish them before I’m gone.
I know that you put a lot of hours into that. My dad’s secrets were wood burning in the scales and fin patterns, and he was a real artist with an airbrush.
He often times sold his work for 1-2000+ dollars, especially the commissioned work.
There is money to be made if you are so inclined.
Keep it up. My dad’s carvings are some of my most treasured possessions. I’m sure that they will also be for your family also.

I’ll have to try a thermostat fly or jig. Looks like that trout is ready to hit it.
Good job.

That is beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Brookies have to one of the most unique and colorful trout and you did it good man. Thanks for sharing and keep doing it.
Ben your talent with a brush is a gift and your painting is nothing short of stunning! BK I’ve been a woodworker close to 50 years and I couldn’t even come close to carving a fish like that that’s an awesome job, well done.
Ben, I’ve built all kinds of projects while woodworking but got into picture frame building because buying them and having pictures and cross stitch stretched and framed was really expensive! I’ve made somewhere around 100, most were gifts, none were sold. Here are a few.
The first 2 were oak with walnut inlays and the last one was walnut with inlaid tiger striped maple. All were finished with wipe on polyurethane. I made it with 1 cup polyurethane and around 2/3 cup of mineral spirits.
Thanks guys I appreciate it. Just another one of my hobbies.
Again great job everybody needs a hobbie i think thanks
