I recently put together a Jon Boat to fish some small Waters near me.
I've never had an aluminum boat I've always fished glass boats.
Will my transducer shoot through the hull? Or am I going to have to mount it externally?
I only ask because my transducers generally shoot through my glass hulls without issue.
In my opinion no they will not. I have the same issue, small jon boat turned to bass boat, and have been told the transducer will not work through an aluminum hull. My fix was to mount a small pvc pole to the side of my jon boat and mount the transducer to the end of it. It turned out it works great for your fish/depth finder. Mine has worked great since I hooked it up. Make sure you remove it when your loading and unloading your boat or it will tear up your transducer.
Mount your transducer to the transom on your boat. Mount it correctly and you will not have any problems. I have had fish finder transducers transom mounted since the mid 60's. It's permanent and efficient. Just make sure it clears bunks or rollers on your trailer. Tight lines!
