Will cost more to repair old surge brakes on
Trailer , been replaced before and needs new master cylinder had blockage in line or bad slave cylinder

I prefer good surge brakes which is what you have but that is because I been wrenching on brakes on many applications but do whatever. Surge brakes have less to go wrong and cause failure but a lot of people like electric. You will also need a Controller installed in every tow vehicle that surge brakes DO NOT require.

They work, but, they require lots of maintenance.

Yes, on a larger boat, you could have a serious accident and cost a ton. Just Sayin...RJS

Who knows what else will need updated when tear into it. I would fix what you have. Maybe see if have rebuild kit instead of new m cyl. Brakeline is cheap too. can just replace it and bleed air out. Surge just need to locked out with pin to back up a hill.

Electric also wear out the drums from rubbing magnets on wall of them. If replace the fluid every five or so years in a surge it will probably keep working.

You can just replace whole axle with electric already with all fresh wheel bearings etc. Dexter axle. Less than you think. Just need one good axle with brakes unless its a yacht.

That's because you're not backing it in the water. Water adds to corrosion. Saltwater even worse.

I use BLUE marine on all wheel bearings even if never goes under water. Lithium is added.
