Zack Mosley published the Smilin Jack comics. Fat Stuff is the character. I remember the comic but not the button slinger in the image. Had to look it up.

This character is "Whimpy" and I think he was always asking to borrow a dime to buy a burger, for which he would gladly pay you back tomorrow! I am not sure which comic strip he was is, might have been Captn Easy. Just Sayin...RJS

RJS, Whimpy was in the Popeye comics and cartoons.

I think I got you with this one RJS. It is Fat Boy from the comic strip Smilin Jack. Started in 1933 ended in 1973. It was a popular strip in the late 30s and into the 40s . I figured I would get some of the younger people on it but not you.

Forgot to mention that artist originally worked on the comic strip Buck Rogers before starting his own strip

I don't know that character, but I certainly recognize the style of drawing from "Smilin' Jack"!
