Having had 'The Right Stuff', he was a true American hero.

So sad, but at 97, he had lived a charmed life, he was a great hero.

I think we all remember him. Thanks for sharing. He started his career because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and he passes away on Pearl Harbor Day.

My dad got to meet him and several of the other pilots and astronauts. He was a design engineer for North American Aviation and was part of the X plane development. The floatation ring that deployed when the Apollo capsules landed in the ocean was his design and he got an award from NASA for it. He said Chuck Yeager was a gentleman and enjoyed meeting him.

Whatever you imagine a 13 kill (five in one day) fighter pilot to be on and off duty, he was the model. He lived life large! Had a beer with him once at the O Club at Myrtle Beach AFB. Memorable night.

I flew my flag at half mast yesterday. Chuck did a lot more for this country that the politicians who traditionally get that honor. He served this country long ...and extraordinarily well.
