I'm a 62 yr old male who lives in the inland northwest, and fish primarily in Eastern WA. Started fishing when I was about 4, and haven't gotten over it yet. I primarily fish for spiny rays or walleye by choice largely because I like to eat them too, and prefer the white meat. There's a lot of trout in Eastern WA, so I fish for them also.l might even sneak in a couple of catfish too given the chance. I fish usually in lakes, but I can lose gear in a river as good as the next guy. Any body out there from my area, or share my interests?

Welcome to the stage CheneyA. No walleye in California, but if there were I'd fish for em. I've got no idea what a spiny ray is, but I do fish for trout in both lakes and streams. I go to the coast about as often as I can to pursue the surf perch. Quite a few folks on here from Washington but most are from the left side.

Welcome to the Forum, CA. 62???????????, you are a little young to be a member, but O.K. we do not discriminate here. (LOL) Thanks for putting your location down. I was confused, do you call the walleye, a spiny ray, or is that another kind of fish that I'm not aware of? It is good to have you on board.

here is a definition of spiny Ray
"any of various fishes, as basses and perches, that have sharp, often pointed and usually rigid fin spines"
It can also apply to salt water fish but I have only heard it used for warm water fish such as Bass, walleye and perch. of course walleye have white meat and second only to steelhead for eating in my book which I'm thinking Jeremy you have caught your share of. Eastern Wa has some great walleye fishing in banks lake, mosses lake, and potholes and am sure there are several others on that side of the mountain. I have caught many over there and some of the biggest trout as well.

Hello, Cheney Angler

I live in Richland and have fished for many species in WA, OR, and ID
for many of my 84 years. I'm presently fishing deepwater walleye and
smallmouth in the Columbia and Snake rivers until Spring bass and crappie
fishing kicks in. I'm occasionally looking for a partner to share expenses
operating my 17' Alumacraft/70hp outfit. I'm probably going to be looking
for some company fishing pike and kokanee in lake Coeur d "Alene next season.

I used to live in Cheney, I moved to the coast so I could be closer to fish for Salmon and steelhead. I believe you can catch walleye in the Pothole by Mose Lake, the Snake River, and the Columbia River you also can get catfish in the Snake and they had them in Sprague Lake down by Ritzvile. There are perch and crappie in a lot of the lakes in your area. You can go to the White Elephant.

Hi Cheney,
I'm in Colville an hour or so north of you. Lake Roosevelt, a little north of you, is my nearest choice for walleye. Don't forget about tiger muskies a few minutes from you in Silver Lake, a half hour east in Newman Lake, and further north in Curlew Lake if you like big ones that are few and far in between there. And pike an hour east in Coeur d 'Alene lake and river (Chain Lakes) is my first choice. You are in a good spot.

I was fishing perch off a lighted dock in Curlew a month ago when a giant tiger muskie
came to the surface by my rod rip, so I know there's at least one left in there. Is there
much of a fishery in Silver Lake?

Fisheries annually stock close to 700 tigers in Newman, +-500 in Silver, and 250 in Curlew. You chances of catching one are commensurate with the stocking numbers. They are largest in Curlew but are very difficult to
pick one up there. I have gone as long as 17 days between landing one there. Attrition exceeds replacement
there currently.

Hi CheneyA, I'm jeretired, 75 years young, living on Spokane 's south hill and tickled to hear all the old timers on this forum questioning what a spiny ray is 😅. They're actually my favorite to and eat too, like yours. I graduated from "Eastern" back in '74 and fished nearly every lake in three area at that time. All pour neighbors loved to see my dog and money heading out fishing because they knew I'd limit pin trout and give them away because after awhile they just lose their taste appeal (unlike bluegill, perch and crappie
