Sounds like you got it made for meat this year

Yup. And that don’t even include fish, pork, beef and buffalo. Stay at home scenario is perfect for us.👍

Rutinbuck: I’ll supply the duct tape if you ever have to hunt with that other guy again.
And don’t forget to duct tape his mouth when you tape him to the tree.

Catfish I bet your gear didn’t cost you much other than some time cutting it up. I’ve spent somewhere around $1300 just so I could chase them whitetails for another year. I know that isn’t much compared to what others have probably spent. I really needed just one more year. Every year it gets harder to do what I love and I’m really dreading the year I may not be able to continue doing what burns inside me and it’s so hard when you are addicted as I am.

Well, you guys are treating your fishing and hunting gear as if it was an expendable expense. That is neither exactly true, or correct. A lot of the stuff, if you've been careful in the purchase and then the care, would rather be an investment! First in that you get to enjoy it, lets say a boat, and if it has been properly maintained, can still be sold at a residual value.

Also, i have nerver bought a rifle,or pistol that I didn't sell ,or collect insurance on because it was stolen, that I didn't get more trhan I paid. Buy quality, keep it well cared for and it will appreciate. Just Sayin...RJS

I hear ya Rutinbuck. These golden years need to be named something different I think. Like maybe the “rusty years” or “stiff and sore years” I’m a little confused as to where the “Golden” part comes in. I used to hike 10/15 miles in a day and then have a steak and drink beer all night. I can still put in a decent hike but only after a protein shake and no steak and beer when I’m done. If I turn my head too quick to catch a glimpse of something my neck pops and I see stars. I’m just not seeing the glory in getting old. Lol
I believe if we stick with it we can continue to stick with it. Just gotta accept the new pains we get so eaten that don’t seem to go away any more. I have a fishing buddy up in Alaska that’s 97. He can’t drive any more because he can’t see but he’s ready every morning and fishes like he’s 25. He said he can keep going because he keeps going. Just ignores the achy joins and pushes forward. His wife of 76 years passed away 4 years ago at 95. He’s looking for a new girlfriend but he said he can’t find one that can’t keep up with him yet. He says “they ain’t many my age still alive and the young generation ones (in their 80s) are just too lazy for me”😂

Catfish I think them golden years happen when your in a tree stand and you waited to pee because you thought you might get a shot at that big buck that didn’t come the last 5 steps then turned around and went back the way he came in. Your chilled to the bone and got the shivers. You try and pull your now 2 inch pecker through 3 inches of clothing keeping you warm and at best you’re lucky to keep it off your bibs and your boots!

RJS I know exactly what you are saying. The only things I have sold are 2 compound bows and couldn’t complain about what I received for them. I have most of the rod and reels I’ve bought over the last 45-50 years. I was trying to tell you what I spent to continue to be able to hunt one more season. I love to Bowhunting but am unable to use my compound bow any longer. I still have it and am hoping that maybe, just maybe to be able to use it again next year. I bought a crossbow this year and am not totally sold on it. Every year it is a little harder to do get out in them deer woods and this year has been the hardest. I’m about done with this season and hope I get one more next year!

At least you got buck. I saw 2 little doe opening day about 9:30 in the morning. About an hour after that I saw another deer that I couldn't even get in the scope before it disappeared behind a stand of thick stuff. I won't shoot a doe on opening day unless it's a monster. The 2 I saw opening day, well let's say I've seen bigger Irish Setters. The only buck I've seen was a little 6 point, after dark, when I was driving home.
