Last night watched a show on hunting pythons in the Florida swamps they said they were getting paid like350.00 to 500.00 per snake there were five guys hunting them they got 20 one day these were 12ft to 18ft all caught alive some needed like three people to get them in the bag this was on the history channel the only thing that I could not figure out was why not shoot them why did they have to be alive now I would not want to hunt them but 20x350 split 5 ways is pretty good days pay if your crazy
I think they want them live for DNA testing etc. Live maybe the meat is worth double the bounty if fresh. You can read up on it. I saw the show your talking about. They are invasive from people letting them go and getting lose during natural events etc.

I watched that show, too The 3 in the everglades made sense, but the 2 in the rattlesnake patch were taking a big chance. Not sure the money was worth the danger.
You all need to check out the technique used in Africa (Cameroon, I believe). I will try to copy and share the link, but am having difficulty. Kinda scary, but there are many of these videos out there.
Basically, the hunters find a hole which may contain a python. One person is chosen as the bait. He covers his leg with some blood, then wraps the leg with a bloody rag. The next step is to stick that leg down the hole...and wait for the python to try to swallow the bait. Apparently they wait until the mouth is past the knee. Since the teeth are angled back toward the throat, the snake is stuck. Now, you hope your buddies like you well enough to pull you...and the snake out of the hole. For you sportsmen and women, unfortunately this is not a catch and release deal, the snake must be cut off the “hunter’s” leg. However, there looks to be enough meat on these pythons to feed a small village. The first video I saw was about 7-8 years ago. I will keep trying to share one of the links which will without a doubt lead to others...
Perhaps a new technique for these FL folks to consider?😱😂
I killed Rattlesnakes on the Alfalfa Ranch more for our safety than anything but i would want a snake that size with my leg in its gut to catch them.

We used to catch rattlesnakes and sell them to the Reptile Gardens in South Dakota. $25.00/Snake and anything over 5 feet was $100.00/foot. We made good money working in the coal mines digging up Snake dens. Everybody had a Snake box in the back of their truck. 3 or 4 hundred bucks a week during lunch breaks. That was dang good money in the 70s. I sold several $125.00 rattlesnakes back then.

Oh you don't want to get bitten by a python either. They're not poisonous like a rattlesnake but a snake that large has some big teeth. The teeth slant back into the mouth so as it's prey tries to escape the teeth sink deeper into it's flesh. And the snake doesn't let go. I've seen other shows where they've had to pry the snake's jaws open to get a man's arm out of it's mouth. Nasty looking cuts in his arm requiring a lot of stitches.
They get dollars per pound for meat. They get$ per foot for hide. Unless skinned shortly after death there skin degrades. Bounty is only a part of the pay off. A large python can net up to $1000 total.

I can remember going to those reptile gardens in about 1960. Riding on the giant tortoises. They’re probably still alive. 🐟on

I’ll bet they are. I think they live over 100 years.
