I want to get a surf fishing rod. Preferably 2-3 pieces or so. Just a general rod I can use when I go on vacation to Florida. I have a battle 2 reel to put on it with braided line.

I have my penn battle combo at 11 feet, and my ugly stick big water at 12, both with 100lb braid, going fishing today so I will test the limits hopefully

Dang. What do you catch that needs 100 lb braid?

Anything big enough to break it, I got it on my penn battle 2 with an 80lb mono leader with I think a 600lb single strand leader.

Do you plan to let your bait soak or to throw lures?

I’d get something that was minimum 10 foot then. As an inexpensive option, the Star Arial line is what I am currently using and I like it a lot. I have a two piece, 8 footer that i use to throw spoons and plugs.

If you want to go up in budget, I would take a look at the surf rods that St Croix offers. I haven’t used one myself but I’ve felt them in stores and they seem really good.

IMO it totally depends on budget and how big a rod you want.

G Loomis has nice 3 piece travel rods up to 7' that will throw 1/2-2oz. ~$400

or if you are really serious look at the Century Sling Shot SS1505/5 12′ 6″ – 1-4 oz 5 piece travel surf rod $859.37

Just go to Walmart pick out a decent, median priced 1-3 oz., 10' rod, a case of beer, a cooler a little ice and a beach chair and enjoy your vacation.

I second that! Why spend all that Skrill on a rod unless you're going to use it frequently or in tournaments or something to hand down? For vacation rod it really has the potential for damage during travel so when you get to your destination by a Rod there for as cheap as you can and give it to some kid when you split.

I don't get to fish nearly as much as I would like but often you get what you pay for. So if I am going to lose that fish of my dreams it is going to be due to my own incompetence as a fisherman and not equipment failure. That being said, the value and faith that you place in your equipment is totally up to you.
