I have some knowledge but I could use some help. I am looking to have a nice 2 rod set up for largemouth bass fishing. My favorite baits to use are a finesse rig, a swim bait, frogs, and jerk baits.

I was thinking get a spinning real for the finesse rigs and a bait caster for the rest but I have no clue what rods are best for what. I'd be willing to spend ~$600 on the rigs together and idk where to start.

$600 is plenty for a pair of rods with some caveats when it comes to fishing frogs. Depending on the cover you fish it is hard/expensive to find a frog rod with much versatility. If you are not dealing with heavy slop it is easier.

- Spinning:

Daiwa BG 2500 reel. Like $80-100, a bit heavy, but solid.

St Croix Avid Rod. One of the M/XF if you want a bit heavier, one of the ML/XF if you want a bit lighter. Both are good multi-purpose finesse rods. Like $210

- Casting:

Daiwa Fuego CT reel. All over ebay for like $60-80. Simple, rugged reel with a very good braking system.

- For the rod there are a few solid contenders:

Megabass Levante 19 “Perfect Pitch”. Just released but getting great reviews, the PP will lean more towards frogs and 1/2oz jigs, larger t-rigs, stuff like that. Good versatility at the heaver end of the common bass presentation spectrum, not ideal for smaller/lighter lures

One of the G Loomis E6X MBR rods. They are the classic "general purpose" tapered rods and are good for a huge range of presentations. Look at the 3 power ones if you prefer lighter lures and the 4 power ones if you prefer heavier ones. Nothing from this line will have the power of the Perfect Pitch but the 844c will be a decent light cover frog rod.

Have a topwater rig and the other for every other method. Several times iv trolled past a log and thrown a top water to it and boom the magic happens. I have a bait caster for both setups i usually keep a 3 blade strike king buzzbait handy and the rest are all soft baits Texas rigged.

Call around to some local pawn shops. You’ll be surprised to find some quality rods there sometimes..
