What's the MINIMUM required to try ice fishing?
Fishing for trout in small lakes. I guess I need a short rod. I have a garmin striker 4 sounder. What other stuff do I have to buy?

Really good winter jacket and pants and an amazing pair of boots. The wind on a frozen lake when you are just sitting will freeze your bones.
I do not enjoy ice fishing

I'm used to fishing on a boat in ski pants and jacket :)

Once you invest into ice fishing the weather is no longer a concern! Take your jacket off, kick back and relax. Even a little 1 or 2 man popup becomes ridiculously warm with a tiny propane heater!
Or if you live some where like me you can just your truck out and fire up the heater once in awhile :P

Ford should come out with an ice fishing door in the floor of the F150.

A friend to take you out. That's what I did anyways.

A sled to pull all of your gear. Insulated boots or some sort of insulator between your feet and the ice. Auger, and an ice scoop to clean the hole. A bucket to sit on.

Ice fishing combos that come with line are cheap, around $15. You'll need some bait, I like a rapala jigging rap but I fish mostly for perch through the ice. For trout, live minnows are probably the best bet. You'll need an auger, manual handheld ones are fairly cheap. Warm clothes and a sled, and that's about it

Ice, fish, auger, tip up or fishing pole, tent to keep warm while you don’t catch fish, & beer or preferred Alc to calm the sorrows of not catching fish.

Loc: Lake Onalaska, Sunfish Capitol of the World!
I need about a foot of ice, I don't know what you need.
Well first get good cloths. Striker Ice or mustangs survival gear. They are both coast guard approved PFD good on ice and in a boat. SK pants, carharts regular coats will kill you D E D dead
