For the bay I would buy used ,save a ton of money.Look for something with 8' beam but shallow draft. It really should be a bay boat, they are designed for bay fishing.Be sure to get a boat with a 4 stroke motor.

Had all types of boats from 12 ft on up for fresh and salt. I presently have a side console 16ft live well which I bought used which is great for fishing salt and fresh. Easy to tow and put in and take out. Took me a long time to find it. Put the bells and whistles on it that I wanted. In my opinion new now a days is just so expensive! Sorry, let someone else pay the premium. My thoughts and experience only. Whatever you buy make a list of all you want in a boat --then get the most that will satisfy you without crushing your wallet.

If you have been getting by with a Jon Boat you probably don't need a big fancy boat! I sold my bigger boat long ago and inherited a 14' Sea Nymph Nymph Boat which sold new for $350. A trailer came with the boat. The boat is extra wide and deep and I have fished with it for 9 years now. I had purchased a used 9.5 Horse Johnson motor for $125, (The TUBBY one with the flat top and short shaft.) It propels my boat faster than other's believe who insist it must be a 25 HP engine, NOT). I have fished with others in big boats which are difficult or impossible to launch in many lakes and are ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to anchor in any wind! Have I EVER regretted my decision? Obviously not as I recently purchased the identical boat in better shape and with pods on the back for $425. I did NOT even try to negotiate the price! That is how much I like this boat. I will use the older one in the river where there are a lot of rocks and use the better one in the many surrounding lakes I fish. It is very easy to take the boat off the trailer on my lawn and I will use the same trailer for both boats. If you look at a 14' Sea Nymph boat you can narrow your search on line and judge for yourself. The Johnson and Evinrude 9.5 HP motors are also available online for $200 - $400. You may find a boat, motor and trailer for sale at a good price. Of course the best time to buy is past but now is better than the fishing openers in May!

I sold my bass boat and got a Gheenoe And I love it ,its fast ,stable and is a blast to use ,and you can get one in your price range . You can put any thing you want on one they have them from 13 - 18 ft. and you can find great deals on used ones ,with all different types of power and layouts .Geehnoe.net ,for starters ,or Crags list ,or boat traider for used ones ,find some one who will give you a ride in one you will love it . I am 65+ and have a 16Ft. with a 30 hp. and it hauls butt .And I can fish spots with 4-5 in,of water I love real fast boats ,so you can get away with a lot smaller motor than I have . look for them on You Tube you will see a lot of people having a lot of fun with them ..
