Welcome to the Forum, Smilineyes, thank you for putting your location down.
Welcome to the stage Angie. We got some folks on here from up your way. I fish in California for trout and have fished for steelies and kings. Both steelhead and salmon are easy to catch, the real challenge is locating them. Steelhead tend to follow the salmon - they like their eggs. So guess what's a good bait. I almost always floated roe under a bobber for steelhead. Just toss it out and let it drift. I would suggest if you're new to fishing for those species especially steelhead that you find an experienced partner and learn or invest a little money and hire a guide, pick their brains.
Good luck Angie. I have found the 1/2 pounder steelies easy to catch, but never the 20 pounder plus. Sometimes they will pound a lure, but with bait they can be tough. You need to be very close to the bottom and if your line stops for any reason set the hook. Tight lines!!
