My fishing buddy was so enamored with the Rainbows he trolled up last week, he wanted to go back for more. Ok by me, I'll try for those deep Bass I couldn't get to bite last week. Forecast close to 60°,light wind, partly cloudy.
Reality, maybe hit 54°,light wind, all clouds all day. Found the deep Bass in a couple spots, tried a tube, jig, hard jerkbait, drop shot with a halfshell, yum dinger, ocho, wacky worm, and a zoom monster worm, all fished painstakingly slow due to the 47°water. NADA, not even a sniff! Meanwhile my buddy tried the shallows with no success, so he started trolling. I saw trout feeding on the surface, an since I brought my trout bucket of goodies,I figured what the hey,why not. Threw a Mooselook Wobbler out behind the boat and kicked the trolling motor up to 1.7mph.
Had the first hit 5 minutes later, dropped him at the boat. Note to self :shut trolling motor off when fighting a trout!
Missed one more but brought 4 into the boat, forgot cooler so CPR ed all fish.
Another work buddy, trout fanatic, says Green lures don't work, so when i saw a deep school I threw out a firetiger Berkley derdger crankbait with lots of green on it. Tied the first fish at 1lb 13oz, the others varied from 14oz to 1lb 9oz. By the way, my buddy got skunked.

Thanks Dave and Lee, I don't think I want to end the season with trout. Normally I winterize and put the boat away this weekend. The weather is supposed to hold in the high 40s -low 50s for another week at least. Since I consider myself as mainly a bass fisherman, I've gotta try and end the season with a Bass or 3. I'm gonna hit one of the river lakes tomorrow, the one that favors Smallmouth. Maybe I'll winterize next weekend. I'm probably gonna regret this but what the he!!, I'm going for it! No guts, No glory, right?

Thanks Kerry, they were a "plan B " so I didn't think to bring my cooler. I revived and released them all.

I did that a few years ago. Cost me 4 grand for a new motor. I caught 2 fish though so it was worth it. 😂

We've got no freezing weather in the forecast for the week, so I'll probably be ok.

Thanks guys, and yes FD, I love to prove that guy wrong. I even sent him a picture of the lure in the trout's mouth.

SALT in his no green lure wound. You think he was trying to keep you from using green or giving you a clue?

Start your outboard in a bucket of antifreeze. Then its winterized. Just don't let any cats etc you like drink it. It wont matter if it all gets drained if you do that. I also don't buy the diluted stuff. It costs a little more but pure coolant freezes at a lower temperature and boils at a higher temp. I have had a few argue that pure coolant will boil over. It never happens. (first of all it boils at a higher temp) There is a chart on the old coolant jugs that shows the temps at 100% and 50%. Some guys heard from some numbskull that if there is no water in the cooling system the heat will not transfer. I just try to ignore them and refer them to the chart on the jug. Hopefully there is no water in someone's oil system and heat transfers so who knows where they came up with it. If your vehicle has pure coolant in it and ever have a leak or problem you can still dilute it to get home in an emergency.

No Jeremy, he's been saying for years that trout won't hit green lures ('cause he's never caught one on green). He's a pretty close minded kinda guy. You know, his way or the highway. He put his boat away 2weeks ago because "It's over Fred, it's over." Last week he told Harry and I that we were only gonna have a boat ride. Harry got the trout last week. This week he said again "You're wasting your time, just going for a boat ride ". I made sure I sent him pictures as soon as I got home! I love proving people like that wrong!

For the last 10yrs or so I've been flushing mine out with non toxic RV antifreeze. I put a couple gallons in a bucket, hook up the earmuffs, and fire it up. I try to time the bucket being emptied, running the gas out of carb, and fogging the snot out of it. It works very well. The RV stuff I've been using has a no burst rating of -50℉.

So with the muffs does it just suck up the anti freeze? Then run it until it comes out of the pee hole.

Yeah Dave, what I usually do is run it on the garden hose for a few minutes, till it warms up. Then I switch the muffs to a hose attached to the bottom of the bucket. I used a thru hull fitting in a hole I drilled in the bucket. I set the bucket on a cinderblock next to the lower unit, put a couple gallons in the bucket and fire it back up. It sucks it right up.

Kinda poor view but you get the idea
