Glass bottom bucket

Almost two years ago, when I was having trouble with my new Helix 5 ice model, Gordan, you mentioned the glass bottom bucket. I used to have this plastic tube about 6" wide that I glued a glass bottom to it, to look for gold it creeks. It broke. But I've been thinking about something like that for ice fishing.
Does anyone know anything about magnifying glass, and where I could get some 6, or 8 inch lens, maybe Just 2 times magnification. I was thinking how much cheaper and easy that would be than a under water camera. Mainly for ice fishing shallow water like Henry's.

Sounds like a good idea, but don't things get a little fuzzy the further away the glass gets,???
