Hi . I want to start fishing in this early spring with the colder temps I'm concerned about icing in the engine after a day of fishing . Does anyone have tips about this ?
Are you fishing fresh or saltwater and what kind of temps are you talking about? What is the state you are fishing in? What kind of motor is it and is it freshwater cooled?
I live in Ma. and have always put my boats in in April. (saltwater) By April you should be fine and not have to worry about any icing. If you trailer the boat? If so, after you get it home and done cleaning it you can start the engine up and rev it just enough to blow any water in the risers out. You can run the engine without water hooked up for a short period of time (30-45 seconds) without doing any damage to the motor. You should be fine. I'm 65 had lots of boats and never had any problems with any icing. Hope this helped.

Thanks Dana , any tips are always helpful ,I've had boats many years as well , To me , the season that I go out fishing seems later and later due to temps .This year I hope to start earlier ,I hear they have clothing for this situation lol . What caused my concern was I went to winterize my boat , the temps had gone to about 45 degrees and when I removed the hose to put anti freeze in , I noticed ice .
Hi, You are welcome. It is getting warmer so you will be OK. I'm sure you have anti-freeze in your freshwater cooling system so the engine will be fine. If you start the boat like I said and just blow the water out of the risers you will be OK. Good luck and tight lines this year my friend. Dana
