Another favorite of mine. A little older than you probably remember him. What movie is this and who was the GREAT director of westerns behind the camera?
Not enough background to know the movie, actor's name is on the tip of my tongue... can't remember, though. Without answering the first two, I can try to answer the third..... gotta be either John Ford or John Huston.

Actor is William Holden and I think the movie is The Wild Bunch.
You are correct. Kinda changed westerns forever. In fact it changed the making of movies forever. This director was breaking new ground - using film techniques no one had ever used before, at least not in a major motion picture.
Yes indeed. Sam was responsible for some very good cinema and television. A little known but well respected series called The Westerner with Brian Kieth. A bunch of episodes of Gunsmoke. And The Wild Bunch - a mighty fine contribution to the genre.
Good thing the third time's the charm (Sam P.).... can't say that I know any other directors of epic westerns..... except for the director of truly my all-time favorite western.....Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles"... hehehe.
As related on another post (I think) I've never seen it. Only pieces of it, not the entire movie. Just not my thing. And I'm not a fan of Mel Brooks. It's my problem, not his. Kinda like Jerry Lewis - if that's your thing, then you love it. if not? Move on.

William Holden, that one I'm sure of, The Magnificent Seven? I think, the director don't remember.....
It IS the Wild Bunch. Sam Peckinpah is the Director. OUTSTANDING Movie with Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine and a dozen other highly recognizable character actors.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 All that was necessary was for somebody to remind me. Now I remember thanks tum....
It was very controversial when it was released (69 I believe) because of the "glorification" of the violence. Gotta remember your political correctness, and that folks like Hanoi Jane were on the prowl. Sam was one of the honey badgers.
