the legend of CASEY JONES

Drivin' that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you'd better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind

This old engine
Makes it on time
Leaves Central Station
About a quarter to nine
Hits River Junction
At seventeen to
At a quarter to ten
You know it's trav'lin again

Trouble ahead
The Lady in Red
Take my advice
You'd be better off dead
Switchman's sleepin
Train hundred and two
Is on the wrong track and
headed for you

Drivin' that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you'd better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind

Trouble with you is
The trouble with me
Got two good eyes
But we still don't see
Come round the bend
You know it's the end
The fireman screams and
The engine just gleams

Drivin' that train
High on cocaine
Casey Jones you'd better
Watch your speed
Trouble ahead
Trouble behind
And you know that notion
Just crossed my mind

song by Grateful Dead

Jones ordered his fireman to jump
when the stalled train ahead was sighted
and Casey rode it out and perished

Who out there on this forum, would've thunk BB was a Deadhead ? Not I, certainly.
I have been one since about early '71, when they released "Uncle John's Band" while I was working in a record store, my senior year in H.S..... didn't get to see them until '73, caravan road trip to Omaha, along with about 15 fraternity brothers.... subsequently attended 50+ concerts up until Jerry's death in '95.....still listen to them daily. Good stuff.

Oh..I see.... not necessarily a fan, just "knowledge by exposure", huh ?....it happens.... thanks to my 38yo daughter, l seem to know far too many words to "One Direction", Janet Jackson's and Brittany Spears' songs of the '90s...lol !

Truth be told, I still listen to "Boyz2Men"....great harmonies.

There are several versions of an older Casey Jones song. One ends with his widow saying:

Hold your crying children, children don't you cry.
Hold your crying children, cause you've got another daddy
On the south pacific line.

You're lucky I didn't get to see them the first time until '92 when the end was getting near.

I’ve been a fan of the Dead for 25 years. Never got to see them with Jerry though I was 14 when he passed on. I’ve been to some shows though with others sitting in spot. Great grooves!
