What do y’all do with your reels when you fly. I have the airliner tube but I don’t know what to do to keep my reels safe. Does anyone have any cool tricks or suggestions? Thanks!

I usually wrap mine up in clothes and put them in my checked bag. I think odds are that you could carry a reel on the plane, but the line is a bit of a grey area from my research, so that's why I check.

I’ve put the reels in there boxes and carried them on in my backpack but that’s a pain in the ass.

Shimano, Daiwa and several other off brands offer some sort of dedicated reel bag for both spinning and casting reels. They can be a bit pricey but were designed with travel in mind and will keep your reels protected and we’ll sorted.
A cheaper workaround that also works really well are DSLR camera bags and cases. Look specifically for the kind with removable soft padded dividers meant for lenses or camera bodies. Most of them are Velcro and can be configured however you need.

What’s the best airliner tube that’s not too expensive?

I put them in my carry on (fly reel). Had a bad experience once going to the Caribbean. I arrived on a Saturday and my checked rods arrived on Tuesday. Since then, travel tube and carry on where ever I go with gear. I did have a set of lippa-grippas snagged by tea-round lipped pliers-wtf? Guy told me no tools over 8”...but never had an issue with fly rod or reel.
If you want to carry on you have to remove all line and line must be in checked bag.
I wrap mine in a couple of old heavy boot socks and put them in my check on luggage . Dont try to carry them on it can be a hassle .
When I fly I only bring 2 piece rods and have hard cases for them. Try to find a case you can leave the reel on.
