Hey old timer I just bought one out of the box had to stand up on it to get it to turn had to adjust the cable on the foot pedal they were to tight hope this helps.

I had a motor guide g3 24 volt 70lbs thrust it kill me to step on that peddle to move my boat I replace the cable I even use lube on the cable I still hate it . So I gave it to my trash can .pro bass shop min kota 80lb riptide 24 volt with extended handle 2 big foot peddles we are back fishing

My bass fishing buddy has one on his bass boat and it works just fine. Maybe a bad crimp on and end?

Have been using Motorguide Troll Motors for fourth five plus years in both fresh,and salt water. Have only had minor problems that Iwas able to fix myself. Guess there are lemons in any product line.

Some TM's have a tension adjustment which may gotten out of whack. Check your Owner Manual (online). Otherwise, I would drown the cable with WD 40.
