Nice catch! What area is that from? Was thinking about going fishing today for the first time this year but it’s cold here and I’m not sure what I’ll use yet. Any pointers?

I'm Central Texas, and it has reached 83 F (28 C) here. I'm just getting back into fishing after many many years, so not much advice to give, except keep casting!

Not certain; a friend looking at the same photo said some sort of small -mouthed bass but was unsure of specifics.

Nice catch , with that dot on the upper portion of the gill , looks like jumbo Blue gills.

Red Eared Sunfish. They get bigger than Bluegills and are just as tasty ! They call them Shellcrackers down South. I've caught a few in Florida that weighed 2 lbs.
