First time I've been able to go fishing, got skunked AND broke my pole smh.. it looks like the river is flowing the wrong way, I've heard of the flow switching up but I've never seen it personally? Idk, but I threw a jig around for an hour or so and all I got was cold.

I got hung up (probably on someone else's broke line) and I had braided line so it wasn't budging in either direction. I pulled a little more and SNAP! There went a good pole.

Anyways, just wanted to vent and tell yall God bless you and report my fun day so, God bless and keep you all tonight. Walk in love.

Denny.

Tough bounce, Denny, too heavy of line for the rod, huh?

Tighten your drag and walk or pull straight back - the line will break before your pole snaps. That don't help now, does it? Yes it's all the way you look at it, but I hate to break a perfectly good rod unless it's with too big a fish.

When you do that pull out some extra line and wrap it around the bottom of the pole under the reel.

I always wrap mine around the handle of my reel but, not anymore! Thanks for a great idea Oz!

Thanks guys, I will try that next time I get caught up. The rod and reel was ultralight... that's what I get for tryna get a big fish on a small rod. Makes things alot more fun if you can get them in, the fight is always a good one. Last year, I caught a 50 or 60 lb flathead catfish on the ultralight and fought it with all I had and that was one of the funnest landings I've ever had! Top five at least..

Spiritof27 is right about hold your rod out straight when trying to break off a snag.

Along with the wrapping it around the bottom of the rod lot less chance of breaking the rod.

I just don't try too hard - if it's any chance the rod's gonna break, cut the line, you're probably gonna lose it anyway. No?

I been feeling mighty good. Like Denny said, a lot of it is perspective, so compared to where I was a year ago? It's like I turned the calendar back about 10 or 15 years. I don't take it for granted, I'm tryin to take it easy and not push it, that's not easy cause I'm not a take it easy kind of guy, or never have been til now. I'm thinking next year is gonna be a whole lot of fun. Recently retired with a brand new back? Look out! How about you sir? How you doin?
