Spinning reel question: what is the purpose of a “deep” spinning reel?

I’ve been looking to get a Daiwa Tatula 3000 spinning reel but I noticed it comes in two models

3000-CXH

3000D-CXH

I’m mainly looking to get this reel for my bass finesse set up to do things like Ned rig, Shakey head, flukes, etc. Would it make more sense to get the 3000 or 3000D / does it make a difference for my application? Thank you for your help.

I'm not certain but I believe the difference is the reel line capacity. I have one of those tatula 3000 reels (forgot which) so I looked into it a bit.

That makes sense. I don’t think I would need the extra line capacity at all so I’m thinking normal spool would be best for me. Thanks!

That makes all the sense.

Bigger line capacity. Mainly for deep dropping for fish like Rockfish. Tends to be 300-400 feet down. For your application I would not get a deep version. You're just going to be fishing top water.

Oh okay I think I should be fine with the normal then. I’m only fishing lakes max 10-15 feet at the moment. I heard larger spools are easier to cast which is why I’m looking at the 3000 size.

Larger spools aren't always easier. Look for a reel with a tall spool that is also shallow. Those are distance casting reels.

I think you made a good choice by the way.

Yes, not only distance casting, but if you fish for large, strong fish who might spool a shallow reel, you could use the extra line capacity. Ordinarily a regular spool is adequate. Just Sayin...RJS

Too big for finesse fishing. Got a smaller reel for that. You don’t need too much line.
