Ive fished all the bay with medium duty ugly sticks and they hold up just fine.... what you need really is a good 30lb test line....

In my experience the bigger difference will be in your reels. Reels made for freshwater will quickly rust out unless you are extremely careful and diligent in rinsing and drying them every single time you fish. In terms of rod backbone you are probably fine unless you're going offshore for big game.

I agree always rinse the real with tapwater after a day of sea fishing. I think a decent test curve for sea bass fishing would be around 2lb to 3lb test curve but it depends what style of fishing you are doing for bass like if you using a float, weight or lures.

I fish saltwater in Texas. The stuff you have is fine from fishing from the shore, docks or fishing lures in the surf.
I would not fish from piers with light tackle.
If your condo is on a canal and it has green lights, then fishing for trout at night with light tackle is a blast

dillwiid37: Your tackle is just fine. Might upgrade the test of your lines. I sincerely doubt you will encounter anything that will spool your reels if you have, say 12 to 15 lb. test mono or braid. I sugget braid, since braid is about 1/3 the diameter of mono for the same test, you can put much more line on a reel. Just rinse with fresh water when you finish, preferablyu every time. Post us some pictures. Just Sayin...RJS

Your equipment will do just fine, good luck. Where are you going and when?
The bass equipment has its place, but to really enjoy your fishing consider one good saltwater reel and a 7ft., heavy rod with 40lb braid. Fish 2 poles and see if the heavy rig is overkill. I think that this will greatly expand your saltwater enjoyment.
