Here is what happens when you use your equipment for more than it’s designed for. I had it on my surf rod throwing 3 oz

All you got now are some spare parts. Hope you have a few more like that one to use them on.
Ouch
I broke a Quick spinning reel once (same spot) by dropping it straight down on the handle butt. We had just arrived at a spot below the Oahe Dam on the Big Mo. Luckily I had a spare rod along to use as the bait shop was closed and I was about 4 hours from home.
That’s enough to ruin anyone’s day!!

I bet ( DARN ) wasn't the word that came out of your mouth when that happen.
You didn't have a big fish on? You're not holding out on us are you?
Bummer deal. Ducttape...superglue and a whole new hand posture may of got a fish in....or have best buddy hold the reel off to one side of you to land the fish. I am amazed it even happened unless the thing had a stress crack already before just casting etc.
Looks like a job for JB Weld !
Well, it wasn't your best day, but look at the situation this way, It will make for a good story! There's always something you can do and with a little imagination turn the event into an interesting story with a point, either to educate or morale. Just Sayin...RJS
Hi Mike, you need to get some good vintage reels. I have 90 and have never had any break and surf fishing is all I do. Get yourself an old Penn 700 or 704 greenie and this will never happen. I only use vintage reels in the surf except for one Daiwa long cast (still technically vintage) that I put braid on for casting out over the bar. I’m going to post some photos of my latest acquisitions for surf fishing. Sorry this happened. Is it a Quantum reel? I often cast 4 to 5 oz. Sputnik’s in the surf with no problems. —— Chris
Dropped one of my Penn spincasters once, broke one toe off the foot. Now I have a spare spool for changing lines, and spare parts if needed. I very rarely use only three ounces of lead though.
