The Stinkhouse on Crab Island

With two good friends, I visited Tuckerton, NJ this morning for fishing (what else?)... The bite was rather limited and we caught only four small skates and one spider crab... nothing worthy of a picture. Obviously we had hoped for more and expected better but it was still an enjoyable day of clear, warm and sunny skies with no wind. Except for an occasional tweet from the birds, it was peacefully quiet.

In the distance from where we setup stands a place known by the locals as "The Stinkhouse". It's a burned out building on Crab Island in the Great Bay, listed in Google Maps only as "Fish Factory". As you may have guessed, it was once a fish processing plant and its nickname comes from the odors that would drift into the town of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey when the winds were coming from the south.

I've included a picture with this thread along with an article describing the history of the plant.

EGG Harbor....Stinkhouse...CrabIsland all make perfect sense to me. Egghead said if he eats CRAB he will be stinking for quite awhile. :)
