Bass fishing: Spinning rod or bust?

Hey all I was wondering. I have grown up using ONLY spinning rods and have never touched a baitcaster. Is there anything I'm missing out on? In terms of casting I can put a lure wherever I want pretty reliably just wonder what all the bait casting love is about from your eyes when where and why do you use them most?

It's going to bomb further and be wayyyy more accurate, if you think you're accurate and can throw far with spinning then double all that.

You need both. I use spinning rods for small lures or rubber worms and grubs but I need a bait caster for bigger jerk baits, crank baits, chatter baits, top water spooks, almost all top water, and last but not least is spinner baits. If you throw a spinner bait on a bait caster and a spinning rod you will see what the difference is right away.

I spent over 30yrs using nothing but spinning gear until this summer. Once I pushed through the learning phase, it’s was readily apparent how much more efficient it was across the board. Conservation of motion, accuracy, distance, etc. I even replaced all my UL gear with BFS gear for creek fishing. Now days there’s very few applications spinning is better for in my humble personal opinion.

It’s all what’s comfortable for you. I can’t throw flukes, (my main go to) worms or lizards very well on bait casting. On the flip side I can’t throw spinner baits, crank baits Rat-L-Traps etc on spinning.....

What everyone above said, and specifically for me too, I don't even use a spinning setup for light lures anymore, I can throw a weightless finesse worm no problem and for even lighter lures, I use an ultralight casting rod with a shallow spool reel. I just really enjoy fishing with them, it's smooth, fast casting, accurate and just feels right to me.

Both have their own niches
I do a lot of finesse fishing with spinning rigs . Lighter presentations
For more of a power fishing approach , crankbaits , spinner baits , etc I’ll reach for the baitcaster
There is overlap. For example in wind I’ll throw a jerk bait on spinning
I do have finesse baitcasters as well.
These typically Are fairly expensive set ups

As far as accuracy, I’m pretty accurate with both. I feather the line with a spinning rod so I put it reliably where I want it

If you are comfortable using spinning , nothing wrong with that
Adding Casting set ups To your arsenal will give you more versatility

When I pick up a baitcaster, it just feels off balance, too weight forward with the reel in front of your hand. Maybe it's different once you actually use one, but I can do everything I need with spinning gear, so I most likely won't go down that road. As far as accuracy goes, I can literally pick a spot to drop the lure on and hit it. I actually had to start aiming a couple of inches from the tips of branches and weeds because I kept hitting them.

One thing all the above forgot, you can apply more leverage with a bait caster and force the fish out of tighter spots.
Learn to use one and you won’t regret it
