Braid versus Mono backing.
Hey ya'll just wondering if any of you have experience with braid backing on your baitcasters? I have personally always used a little bit of mono as backing on my reels but recently I have been seeing some chatter and even a video Arron Martin did on always using cheap or old braid on your baitcasters as backing especially when your throwing fluoro to get more distance out of your cast and obviously save money on fluoro. . just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I am interested in trying this on my cranking set up this year.

I back with braid for two reasons:
1. Less spool weight. I do a lot of BFS casting and use light-for-rod lures, so the spool-weight matters to me.
2. The braid backing becomes “emergency line” if I fuck up my mainline far from my car. Mono will get to crusty to be of much use very quickly.

I don't use a backing at all. I put a small piece of electrical tape on my spool. My main line is braid to a mono leader for most applications. I use a blood knot as my connection knot. I've been doing that for years and that system has never failed me yet. I have the power of the braid to horse on them and the strech of the mono in case they get stupid right at the bank or the boat. I don't think the mono has cost me bites as far as visibility at all.
