One that got away story?

What's your one that got away story? Every fisherman has one right?

Personally mine was surf fishing on Dauphin Island, AL. I caught several good bait fish and used them as cut bait on my big rod with 100lb braid and a thick steel leader.

I put as much fresh cut bait as the circle hook could possibly hold, casted out the line as far as I could get it in a cut between the sandbar. I put the big rod down in my rod holder (like pictured below), and went back to fishing for more cut bait. After about 20 minutes in the water, I saw a hit on my big rod.

I started running over to it, and I noticed that whatever was on the other end had completely bent the rod over.

Just before I grabbed a hold of it, the pressure was so much on the rod holder in the sand that it completely snapped in half... then somehow my line was caught in the PVC plastic and cut in half. I still don't know what was on the other end to this day, but I have myself a good "One that got away" story at least.

Used to fish a small pond in a valley between a couple of hills. It wasn't large, but it was very healthy and had some seriously deep water in the center. Three different times while fishing down the deep stretch, I hooked something big that either broke me off or threw the hook. Never got close to landing it, and the friend who lived there had a couple of similar experiences. None of us where using ultralight tackle either, just you typical largemouth gear.
