Welcome Shawnee. That's the biggest walleye I've ever seen. You certainly have plenty of fishing options. Nice pics.
My experiences Walleye fishing and I fell in love with it. Probably because I caught fish every time I went. LOL
Don't get me wrong, I am far fron an expert. This last fall was my first time walleye fishing, and only went 3 times. But I had good luck every time I went. And I have only fished out of North East in Pennsylvania.
First time was first of August with a guide. We trolled crank baits and spoons off downriggers and dipsy divers. Caught some small ones 15"-18" a mile off the coast in 40' of water. Had to quit at 1:00 PM because of wind. He said if we wanted to catch some big ones we had to go to deep water. I asked why he didn't use crawler harnesses and he said he didn't want to get his boat dirty. All said, it was a good learning experience added to what I learned on YouTube. YouTube is the best thing since peanut butter.
Second time, end of August. I took my boat and fished 2 miles out in 60'-70' with a mixture of bait but ended up using crawler harnesses. We used downriggers and dipsy divers, and got them tangled up a couple of times. That was fun......
Again, we had to quit at 1:00 PM because of the wind. Caught several fish though.
Third time mid-September. Trolled two downriggers 1 1/2 mph with homemade crawler harnesses, 5' off the bottom. Used silver #5 Colorado blades, clear beads, trailing a night crawler. Fished 60'-70' of water until noon and caught 4 15"-20". Had good weather so we got to fish all day. That afternoon we went out 5 miles in 100' of water. That is when we caught the big ones. Caught 5 20"-24".
Corresponding pics below. I learned several things new on each trip. Looking forward to next summer/early fall. Going to plan several trips. Only a 4 hour drive from my home in West Virginia and my son likes it too. But, heading to North Carolina next week then to Florida 1st of December. More will be revealed by and by. CU
