I made it up to Henry's Lake on Tuesday. It was 16 degrees. My favorite spot only had 2 inches of ice, so I turned around to head back home, a two hour drive. But as I was going by the small parking lot on the North end of the lake, I noticed the ice looked a lot thicker. Me and some friends had fished that spot years ago and never did any good. And since then I have never seen anyone fishing that spot. It is shallow with lots of under growth. But as there was a good 5 inches of ice, I decided to try it. It was around 8 am when I got on the ice. I walked out around 100 yards and the ice was 4 inces, so I tried there. With just one pole out I got 2 pound cutthroat. So I put three more poles out. I was trying circle hooks for the first time. But even with them My first 2 pound Brooke was caught down deep and bleeding bad as soon as I got it on top. So I had to keep it. It was 17 inches. You can only keep two fish at Henry's. I got another two pound Brook and then a 3 pound cut/bow that was 20" that I had to keep. Done at 10 a clock.

I got done and headed home. But I wanted to verify if I was the only one on the lake, so I drove down to the State boat dock and camping spot on the South side. That last storm and cold front had lots of wind that blew out of the North. And on that South side it piled up the ice in big chunks. I wish I would have took a picture, because it is hard to describe how bad it looked. As far as I could see it looked like a ice bolder moon scape, or something. Virtually unfishable. They was lots of ravens and magpies out in the ice bolder field that looked like they were eating something that got blower up on the ice. Minows or something.

Wow, I can’t imagine ice fishing in October! Two years ago here in Pa. we didn’t have safe ice for most of the winter. I’d say you had a pretty good day

Thanks for sharing, Randy, a 15" brookie is considered a "trophy" around here. They must grow bigger out there.

We have no ice here in Ohio yet.
Debating taking the boat out for what will be one of the last few times this season. Getting hurricane remnant rain. A lot of rain. Solid constant downpour since yesterday afternoon.
Good day to make a pot of soup
