Awesome, man. Also, I’ve learned the king sling is the best knot for salt water.

Thanks for the tip! I'm fairly new to saltwater, been a trout/salmon fisherman my whole life. For anything resembling baitfish I'm pretty much always running a loop knot!

Same! I learned that knot when I went to Pyramid Lake a few weeks ago. Saved my ass!

Most important aspect of saltwater is tides. Find a chart for where you are going. If you find fish on a part of a tide, try it the next day as you can usually find a pattern.

This is my fourth year going down to Florida and bringing my fly rod. I haven't hired a guide before but I have done fairly decent as the years have gone on just exploring and talking to the locals!

Importance of the tide is something I learned the hard way. Every morning I would be out on ocean fishing at first light and couldn't believe I had the place all to myself! Then , when I would be leaving around 9 am to get breakfast I would notice all the locals starting to show up to fish. Finally one of them was kind enough to fill me in on how the tides work, Haha.

That has nothing to do with tides and everything to do with enough daylight to see the Snook cruising.

I use a bimini for braid to fly line, Rapala knot for making the leader loop and then Kreh loop for the fly.

Which knot do you replace with the king sling and why?

I was using the kreh knot before the king. The king sling is just as strong, but it’s faster to tie.

Ah okay. Is it a bulky knot? I’m trying to envisage it in 60lb fluorocarbon. I’ll have to compare it when I get home.

It looks bulky, but you’re also not fishing for 20” trout on a dry fly. The knot kicks ass, just give it a try.
