Gentlemen : Has anyone used a quantum smoke Rod and bait casting reel ? What do you think of them and would you buy another one ?I'am thinking about buying another bait caster and just shopping for bits of wisdom here ! General fishing mostly pass and pan fish . Fresh water I don't think that I'll use it in salt . What do you think about this setup ? Rod any good ? Reel any good ? just asking for your thought's Thank You RB

RickeyBrock: Well, hoss, you haven't even worn the new off the rod and reel you have. Put some miles and fish under your belt. By then you will know whether what you own is suitable, or not. Keep a tight line and show us some pictures. Just Sayin....RJS

At 69 years young I've put a lot of miles on both my fishing gear and myself to boot . I used to be a young handsome devil with brand new bright and shinny fishing gear and just look at me now . Old rusty and creak when I walk and I won't even mention what kind of sounds I make when I set down or bend over . So a new and shinny rod and reel is just what the doctor ordered ! So you teach fly fishing ? I started fly fishing when i was @14 I mowed yards to buy a new Eagle Claw Fiberglass rod and a martin reel . In the early 60's in north Ga . Where i lived fly's were hard to come by . We had yeller Hammers , Thunder heads , RC's and hare's ears . that was about it . Bett's had other fly's as well as popping bugs but for a kid 1.00 was high back then . What did you start off with ? RB

I have 2 Quantum’s, one baitcasters combo and one rod matched with a Shimano spinning reel. Love both. No issues.

In have a Quantum pole. Just fished with a new St. Croix. I think you will be disappointed. If you have a St. Croix you have the best rod I have fished. Matched up with a Curado DC. GREAT combo in my opinion.

Howdy RB. I have used a Quantum Smoke rod & they get my nod of approval. My fishing buddy for the last 40 years bought 2 last year for our Canadian trip. He used them hard & wanted me to try it out. I caught a few smallmouth with the rod & liked the way it felt. The rod is well balanced & very lightweight. I can't help with new Quantum baitcasters. I have an old Quantum Iron reel or 2 & they are tough as nails. The're made in japan. The new ones are probably from China.
