Why put the boat away? Hmmmmmmm!

Normally this time of year the water temp drops considerably and most of the fish I catch are the baby LMB. There are stripers in most of the local lakes, but I have never really gone after them like some of you folks. Guess what I mainly go after are bigger LMB and not quantity like I use to. This year has been quite different in many ways. Water temp is about 10 degrees above normal, so fish are still around. I am a "Warm" weather old guy and not too fond of the cold. Maybe for fun, I should try for stripers. Hopefully that answers your question Fred.

Yeah give them a shot OBG. The schoolie sized saltwater ones are a blast on freshwater tackle. I presume your freshwater ones would be about the same, in the 2-10lb range. There seems to be quite a large spread of what's considered "Cold " on the stage.LOL.

Remember, I am a Hawaii beachboy transplant! So my cold is a little higher than most.

Yeh, will give the stripers a try. Just got to figure out how to fish them.

Yeah I can understand the Hawaiian influence, on the other side of the coin,we've got the Wyoming nut jobs, Smoky and Egg who think 30° is time to put a long sleeve shirt on.

Saw seems to swear by Bleeding gills Rattle Traps, in the river anyway. When I schoolie fished in the salt, I used jointed Rebels, small Bucktails with a pork rind trailer, and smaller spoons like Hopkins or Kastmasters in 1/2to 1oz sizes. They should work in freshwater too.

Will give those a try Fred. Thanks for the info. Stictly frest water lakes for stripers around these parts. Hear a lot about chicken livers, anchovies, and silver spinners around here.

Well Fredfish. I kind of did buy it. $275 per pound. New Curado DC and St. Croix rod. Second cast. Caught 3 more after that, so I finished the afternoon at $55 per pound. It was great to get hooked up that quickly after plunking down the stack of benjamins.

Amazing reel. I want to take a lantern down to the lake to fish top water tonight. Too cold for bugs. Might be too cold for me also.

Spent an hour in the dark on the dock.
Bombing a whooper popper. No birdnests. Didn’t think that was possible.
